Chosen Magazine Cover Picture

                                      

This is the picture I have decided to use for my magazine. The reasons for this are that his facial expressions give off a sinister, creepy image relating to his character. He is in the centre of the frame and will be enlarged to have his face the majority of the cover. In homage to several other horror editions with the same concept.

Likewise with my poster, I will be doing the same research into possible pictures for my magazine. I have taken a look at different magazine, and horror edition magazine covers and have decided to make my poster and magazine of similar dominant central images, varying the angles and facial expressions.

These pictures represent the character, being mysterious and sinister, therefore I have created a shortlist of pictures for my magazine that I will decide on a final picture. 

Potential Poster Pictures

Before I create my poster, I will need to find a dominant central image. I will be taking different shots regarding the suitability for the genre, and style of poster - explaining why they could be used.

As this is the main protagonist in my trailer, I have decided to have all eyes on him and focus on putting him on the cover and poster. As relating to his character, I have taken pictures in different angles making him seem sinister and mysterious.

Potential Cover lines

Before I edit and create my own magazine publication, I will be looking at existing magazines and noting any patterns or particular language used, therefore when creating my own, it will look authentic and use the appropriate language. Cover lines are what audiences find on a magazine front cover, therefore I would include as many cover lines relating to my 'horror special' as I can - as an example I looked at to magazines from different months and took the film name and cover lines relating to it.

After looking at these, along with a variety of other cover lines form different magazine publications, I have picked up the language used and come up with several for my own.

Through a questionnaire, I will find out what it is that an audience would find inside a film magazine, and in the ways in which layout, design and content would persuade them to buy the magazine.

Potential Magazine Names (2)

After collating a variety of magazine names, I have now narrowed my choices down to four.                 These are:

- Tinsel Town
- Film Star
- Ultimate Film
- Genre

Out of the four, I feel the name 'Ultimate Film' would be most appropriate for my target audience and magazine genre.

After conducting a focus group where we discussed the suitability of my names, of which were scored out of 10 - here are the results:

Tinsel Town - 8
Film star - 6
Ultimate film - 9
Genre - 3

My magazine will be a mainstream, horror edition. 

Potential Magazine Names

As I have decided that my magazine will be a mainstream special horror edition, I am going to complete a list of potential names and comment on its suitability.

Red Carpet

As one of films most recognisable icon associated with big Hollywood Blockbusters and A-List film stars. Therefore I feel this name would be appropriate for a mainstream magazine as it reflects Hollywood and the film empire.

Tinsel Town

'Tinsel Town' is a nickname for Hollywood, suggesting glamour and mainstream films. This would work well as a magazine name as it would be part of a 'special edition' feature.

Flix

Flix is a slang' word for movies and brings to mind the kind of films people would see at a multiplex; Again would be appropriate for a mainstream type of magazine.

Movie

Since the word 'movie' is most commonly recognised worldwide, it would suit the magazine for an all-rounded audience as they would know what it would include and would seem user-friendly.

Ultimate Film

The word 'ultimate' suggest it covers the best and biggest films. Therefore it implies it covers Big Budget Hollywood films.


Film Star

Again this implies mainstream Hollywood films as Hollywood is dominated by stars.

Genre

This would immediately relate to Hollywood as genre would normally be associated with Hollywood films. Whereas British or independent films may be more specific. This could also indicate potential special edition focusing on specific genres.

Mainstream

This one speaks for itself, dealing with mainstream films.

Projection

Although this could be related to mainstream films, it would tend to apply to more classic / independent films.

Zoom

Short and punch, referencing film might be good if it was a magazine to focus on action films.


Jump Cut
 I really like this name, however the name 'jump cut' was insinuate the breaking on continuity and a breaking Hollywood rules.

Box Office

Most commonly related to cinema, the box office os the central 'hub' of film. Therefore would be a potential name for an all rounded film magazine.
