Rough Shot List

This was my first ever write-up of my trailer, it has been copied from a word document that I used, the majority of the shots and ideas had changed, however this shot list gives a rough idea in the start of my thinking process, and can be compared to the finished trailer. All of the shots are in chronological order of how I had imagined them to appear, although I knew this would be re-drafted many times.

(Heat beat, slow motion, echo sound of thoughts over logo’s.)

(Dad Dreaming in bed)
  • Est shot - House etc
  • Dad sleeping (get different shots)
  • Cut to black
  • Nice family setting
  • Dad playing with son (different shots, take loads)
  • Wave the kids off (Mum drive off)Cut, Impact sound
  • First tagline
  • Police Statement ( Outside station ) ‘‘He’s back...’’
  • While policeman talks, he is a voiceover to some images of killer sightings
Dad waking up somewhere... wakes up in public looking disorientated

Wife paranoid... on her own looking at blood on clothes (laundry)

(shot looking won laundry, her looking down, her looking in thought, dropping clothes)
  • Diaglouge between them, she second guesses him
‘‘Where were you last night?!’’
‘’I don’’t know, I woke up in a strange place’’
‘’ are you having an affair’’
‘’ I would never go behind your back’’
‘’ WHO ARE YOU??’’

(cut to him close ups)

(cut to black)

MONTAGE OF ACTION:
  • Girl running, screaming
  • Hand held shots, all panicky and quick
  • Dad through door, wife puts chair against it
  • Dad running different places

Cut back to family being scared of him
Dad terrorizing family
shot of them behind the door

Organising Props, Costume & Setting

Costumes used in my trailer were fairly straight forward, for instance my main character, the father,  needed a few different outfits. One being smart - to show he is a working man and brings in an income for his family, in contrast to his double life, he needed to look 'rough' and like he had not had a ways in a few days. Matching his distressed overall image. My policeman has to look presentable in front of camera, therefore a suit was needed - as looking at previous police statements where the spokesman wore a similar outfit. The other characters costumes were not tampered with as it was their everyday clothing.

I needed various props for my main characters, we needed to use a knife, shovel, washing basket with clothes, and a car. All of which were used in the trailer - they were to add emphasis on certain scenarios and to give the audience a talking point.

The correct setting was hard to find, I needed to go to various local locations to get different shots. For example I went to the local forest, to get different montage shots - the miss-en-scene here also added emphasis to the message of the trailer. My college also played a part as the grounds around had free, open space to film in where background noise would be a minimum and any of my peers who needed to be filmed were on location.

Chosen Poster Picture

This is my chosen poster picture, for the same reasons as my magazine representing his character. However I may use the outline of his body to give off a more sinister look.

Chosen Magazine Cover Picture

This is the picture I have decided to use for my magazine. The reasons for this are that his facial expressions give off a sinister, creepy image relating to his character. He is in the centre of the frame and will be enlarged to have his face the majority of the cover. In homage to several other horror editions with the same concept.

Potential Magazine Cover Pictures

Likewise with my poster, I will be doing the same research into possible pictures for my magazine. I have taken a look at different magazine, and horror edition magazine covers and have decided to make my poster and magazine of similar dominant central images, varying the angles and facial expressions.

These pictures represent the character, being mysterious and sinister, therefore I have created a shortlist of pictures for my magazine that I will decide on a final picture.

Potential Poster Pictures

Before I create my poster, I will need to find a dominant central image. I will be taking different shots regarding the suitability for the genre, and style of poster - explaining why they could be used.

As this is the main protagonist in my trailer, I have decided to have all eyes on him and focus on putting him on the cover and poster. As relating to his character, I have taken pictures in different angles making him seem sinister and mysterious.
